The Grand Book

In the pursuit of addressing unmet needs within the wellness app market, our challenge at the ironhack UX/UI bootcamp was to develop an app that could offer a comprehensive solution for wellness and health. In a world where menstrual education remains shrouded in uncertainty and stigma, The Grand Book aims to redefine what it means to be informed, educate and empowered.

Competitive analysis

A market dominated by tracking apps and premium content

We looked at the classic period tracking apps: Flow, Glow, and Clue.

They shared many features, such as onboarding screens, daily symptom logging, and integration with other health apps.

Regarding aspects relevant to our app:

  • Only the Flow app offered personalized articles, but access required a premium account.

  • All provided some educational content, though it was exclusively accessible via premium accounts.

  • The Glow app did provide some educational content for free, but it was difficult to locate, and the information did not seem reliable.

  • Additionally, the Glow app featured a community section, resembling social media. The Flow app also included a forum section.

AI-Powered Personalization

Users sought clearer explanations of the onboarding tools. While the concept of AI personalization was appealing, its operation was unclear. We clarified this by introducing a detailed two-step onboarding process, significantly improving user engagement.

Key learnings

Some projects are about soft skills

I've learned a lot from this project. Working in a remote environment with team members from diverse backgrounds presented its challenges. Nonetheless, it significantly contributed to my personal growth, particularly in developing soft skills. It taught me the importance of recognizing when to step up and take on a leadership role. Starting strong with a kickoff meeting would have really helped to mark the project's objectives, scope, what success looks like but also understanding each other skills and strengths in order to be more productive.

Next step for this project would be :

  • High-fidelity testing enhancement

  • UX writing improvement

A heartfelt thank you to Ginger and Mau, my teammates, for their presence, assistance and support throughout this project and beyond !
